For instance, when looking into my Master's in Education, I was strongly considering PSU because it looked like the cheapest option. However, that was BEFORE they added in technology fees, student health fees, we-want-to-charge-you-an-asinine-fee fee, etc. After all that is taken into account, it actually costs about the same as Marylhurst, even though Marylhurst costs more per credit.

In retrospect, if I was doing it again, I would pay 10,000 more and go to Lewis and Clark. Any type of job in education right now is difficult to get. While, I don't have a steady job yet, I have been getting more interviews then most of my cohort simply based on who I know. Going to Lewis and Clark would have gotten me into even more doors and schools to sub, and possibly get hired.

A Master's degree isn't like a B.A. in that it doesn't really matter where you go when your applying to jobs afterwards. Going somewhere unknown might not hurt your chances, but going somewhere with clout, with people who have connections will make a significant difference. Don't just go for the cheapest option. If you're going to commit to making the investment of going to grad school, then make the best investment you can.

Private school markets are just as saturated for educators right now as public; and Southern Washington is just as saturated as the Portland Metro area. The relationships you build in grad school will be paramount in getting you interviews. It won't get you the job, but it will get you in the door. It's a hard market for educations on the West Coast, which someone in Kansas won't really understand. If you're open to moving away from the West Coast, you'll have a lot more job options.
